Recruitment Basics

Thank you for showing interest in becoming a member of Delta Delta Delta. At Baker University, sorority recruitment happens in August a week pior to classes starting. It is encouraged for any student to participate in recruitment, even if they are unsure about joining a house.  Recruitment provides students a time to meet their classmates, form new friendships and discover whether or not Greek life is right for them.

To be eligible for recruitment, you must complete a registration form and pay a small fee of $20.

If you have any further questions, please contact Jennifer Letner, sorority and fraternity life coordinator, at Jennifer.Letner@BakerU.edu or (785)594-8443

What should I wear each night of recruitment?

Clothing can be tricky to figure out. How it typically goes, is each night your outfit should be more professional than the last. For example, Philanthropy night dress casual cute, for Skit night dress business casual, and for Preference night dress semi-formal. For a few visuals click here

What if I am unsure about joining a sorority?

There is no harm in going through recruitment. If at any point you discover that sorority life isn't for you, you don't have to continue with the process. Greek life may not be for everyone, however be sure to keep an open mind during recruitment because you might surprise yourself and end up loving the Greek system.

My friend and I like different houses. What do we do?

Each house attracts different people. You have to choose the sorrority you think is best for you. But don't worry if you and your friend choose different houses, you can still be friends with them. Sorority unity is important on Baker's campus, and forming friendships with girls in other houses is a perfect example of that.

Will people still talk to me if I don't join their house?

Yes. It doesn't matter what house you join, girls from the other houses will still talk to you and treat you respectfully.

I'm awkward. Help!

Recruitment is all about being yourself. Embrace your awkwardness - you'll find the right house no matter what. Everyone fits in somewhere.

How do I know which sorority is for me?

As simple as it sounds - you just know. A good tip to keep in mind if you're deciding between two houses is to imagine yourself in the house with your three favorite girls out of it. If you can still see yourself in that sorrority without those three girls in there, then that could be a clue it's the house for you.

I'm a legacy, but I think I fit in more in a different house. Is that okay?

Being a legacy at a house can be a major factor in deciding which house to join. However, you have to join the sorority that's best for you. If that happens to be another house, then so be it.

How is recruitment at Baker compared to larger Universities?

Compared to large universities Baker's recruitment is more relaxed. At bigger colleges recruitment is a whole other ball-game. Here, it's much less stressful and chaotic.

Isn't it expensive to be in a sorority?

Contrary to popular belief, living in a sorority at Baker is actually less expensive than living in the dorms.
