How do we help?

Children's Cancer Research

and partners with St. Jude Children's Cancer Research Hospital

In 2004, Tri Delta nationally made an agreement with St. Jude to raise $10 million in 10 years, becoming the largest commitment by any Greek organization. But because our progress was coming along so well, in 2007 Tri Delta changed the goal from $10 million in 10 years to $10 million by 2010 - four years ahead of schedule.

The current goal for members is to raise $15 million in five years, and we REACHED OUR GOAL...in only 3.5 years!!

After reaching this goal, Tri Delta made the largest single commitment pledge to St. Jude. In just 10 years the fraternity has pledged to raise $60 MILLION for the hospital. In honor of our commitment, the short-term housing facility next to the hospital will be named Tri Delta Place.

St. Jude Quick Facts

The Teen Room

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was founded by Danny Thomas in 1962. It maintains 78 inpatient beds and treats about 260 patients each day. Since it's opening, St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and more than 70 foreign countries.

St. Jude has on average 7,800 active patients visit the hospital each year, most of whom are treated on an outpatient basis. It treats children without regard to race, religion, creed or ability to pay.

St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay.

St. Jude is the largest childhood cancer research center in the world in terms of the number of patients enrolled in research protocols and successfully treated.

The hospital's daily operating cost is $1.8 million, which is primarily covered by public contributions.

In 1962, the survival rate for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood cancer, was 4%. Today, the survival rate for this disease is 94%, thanks to research and treatment protocols developed at St. Jude

Some of the events put on by our chapter include a chili feed, where anyone comes to the house and eats unlimited chili for $5 and all proceeds go to St. Jude. We also hold an event called Party on the Lawn 'Til Dawn, which is a letter writing campaign known as Sincerely Yours. For this event, we gather teams across campus and have a letter writing event asking family, friends, or anyone to donate to St. Jude.

In 2002, Tri Delta took on the challenge of raising $1 million in four years to endow the hospital's Teen Room. In January 2005, we reached our goal.

The teen room is a haven for patients to get away from parents, nurses and doctors and to be with kids their own age. It's equipped with Internet, video games, stereos, games, and many lounging areas that teenagers love.
